Dr. Hagenburg’s Thoughts on This Article: In this New York Times February 2010 article the link between celiac disease and infertility is spoken of. Celiac disease is the extreme form of an intolerance to the protein, gluten, found mainly in wheat products. With the infertility treatments at our office Dr. Hagenburg has spoken extensively about diet and avoiding gluten when struggling with infertility and although this report speaks of the extreme gluten disorder of celiac disease it does show that gluten itself and therefore one’s overall diet does have a direct influence on physiological functions such as fertility.

Research shows that such patients have lower than normal endorphin levels in their spinal fluid. The article goes on to further state that, “experiments with acupuncture have shown that there are higher levels of endorphins in cerebrospinal fluid following acupuncture,” therefore promoting acupuncture treatments for chronic pain.
